Financial Aid
In order to receive Financial Aid in college students need to complete and submit a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to the federal processor. The first step in completing the FAFSA is to request a PIN (Personal Identification Number), one for the parent and one for the student. The PIN is your electronic signature and you will need to keep it for future years. You can request a PIN at pin.ed.gov. You will need to use your 2008 student/parent federal tax information when completing the FAFSA form. It is recommended to file the FAFSA by March 1st if at all possible.
There are four main types of financial aid available: Scholarships, Grants, Work-Study and Loans. Scholarships come from private donors or from a college and are not repaid. Grants are based on financial need and are not repaid. Work-Study is based on financial need and allows a student to earn money while attending college. Loans are a type of financial aid you must repay with interest.
